History

Our preschool history demonstrates the committed parent membership and community support and dedication to the Deep Cove Parent Participation Preschool.

The Deep Cove Parent Participation Preschool was formed in 1974 when the Seymour Heights became too full and decided to serve only its immediate area. With much work and dedication, the Deep Cove parents formed our first preschool temporarily at the Deep Cove Community Hall followed by St. Simon's Anglican Church. We began operating out of the church in October 1974.

In 1985 the preschool's lease with St. Simon's was not renewed, as the church needed this space. The members of the preschool promptly formed a committee to find a new premise. With the lack of community facilities at that time, the committee decided to purchase its own facility. The committee found a suitable mobile, organized all the servicing to the building and also organized the clearing and start of the playground behind Seycove High School, 1204 Caledonia Avenue.

In 2002, due to the physical expansion of Seycove and its need for more parking, we were once again faced with the need for a new preschool building site. Fortunately, a father at the preschool was able to convince the District to designate our present site for the preschool on the North East corner of the Seycove grounds, beside the upper parking lot. The same parent spearheaded the construction of our current beautiful and spacious preschool facility and lent the preschool the funds needed to complete the project. This move resulted in a completely new and larger facility in 2002 and a brand new playground in 2004. We are presently fundraising to repay the small amount of debt remaining and have had much success through the dedication or our committed membership and support of the Deep Cove community.

We are a registered non-profit society which follows both Provincial Licensing and Health regulations and the Council of Parent Participation Preschools regulations and IS a participating member. Financial assistance is gratefully received from the Gaming Policy and Enforcement Branch, Province of British Columbia.
